Santa Fe - "The City Different"

Santa Fe has been receiving positive national attention for decades, and, recently, the pace of these accolades is increasing.

Here is just a sample of the rankings…..

#1 - Organic Style magazine rated Santa Fe as the healthiest city in the country in its September 2003 issue. Based on a number of parameters including air quality and toxic runoff, Santa Fe was ranked 1st out of 125 cities tested for clean, healthy living.

#5 - In October of 2003, Santa Fe was included in Conde Nast Traveler magazine's "Readers Choice Awards" as one of America's top ten travel destinations for the twelfth straight year. The city was ranked 5th after San Francisco, New York, Charleston and Chicago. Santa Fe has been included in this poll of well-traveled readers each year dating back to 1992 when the city first appeared as a write in nomination and was voted the number one travel destination in the world.

#6 - In the June, 2003 edition of American Style magazine - ranked the city as the 6th most popular U.S. arts destination as determined by their readers. Santa Fe has appeared in the Top Ten of American Style's best 25 arts destinations for each of the six years the magazine's poll has run.

#3 - In June of 2003, Santa Fe was selected as the 3rd most popular travel city in North America by nearly 200,000 Travel + Leisure readers.

#9 - Santa Fe ranked ninth out of 318 metropolitan statistical areas in Restaurant Growth for 2002. This is the third time in as many years.

#10 - In June of 2003, Santa Fe was selected as the 10th  most popular travel city in the World by nearly 200,000 Travel + Leisure readers.

#10 - In April of 2003, American Association of Retired Persons Magazine named Santa Fe one of the 15 best places in the country to "reinvent yourself." AARP compiled this list of "Dream Towns" and included Santa Fe as number ten.

#9 - Santa Fe appeared in the "10 Best Places for Business and Careers" as determined by Forbes magazine in the May, 2003 issue. The business publication ranked Santa Fe as 9th best among 168 small places for business potential. Among the attributes cited were a high number of advanced degrees and educational attainment within the population as well as a lower cost of doing business.

#8 - Where to Retire magazine listed Santa Fe as one of "Eight Great Tax-Friendly Towns" in its Winter 2003 issue.

Going back a little further: Santa Fe was listed as one of Family Fun magazine's top "family towns" to visit for two consecutive years, 1999 and 2000.
